WNBA Partners with Planned Parenthood to Raise Funds for Abortions

Many Christian basketball fans are calling foul after the WBNA partnered with the abortion clinics known as Planned Parenthood.

The latest joint venture has been dubbed “Take a Seat, Take a Stand” and the program provides fans with “the chance to support organizations that are changing the game for women and girls.” The league states that $5 of every ticket will be donated to an extreme left-wing organization. Planned Parenthood ranks among the women’s league’s priorities although fans have the option of directing their donation elsewhere.

“For 22 years, the WNBA and its players — women playing at the highest level of their sport — have stood up as role models for millions of women and girls,” WNBA President Lisa Borders reportedly said. “We are proud to come together as a league to stand with our partner organizations, our fans and the many inspiring women raising their voices for change in the current women’s movement.”

Although Planned Parenthood provides a wide range of women’s health services, the national chain of clinics has been cited among the most prolific in terms of abortions. In recent years, Planned Parenthood has come under fire for allegedly offering to sell the remains of aborted babies to the highest bidder.

Planned Parenthood Focuses on Abortions and Profit

Despite the clinics’ widespread propaganda that they are first and foremost centers that provide important health outreach for women, the trend has been to scrap vital services and focus on aborting unborn children.

Watchdog pro-life organizations cite the clinics for performing upwards of 7.6 million abortions since the Roe v. Wade decision was handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court. While other services have been on the decline, killing unborn children has been a lucrative business venture for the organization.

According to reports based on Planned Parenthood’s own published fiscal year data, from 2009 to 2016 manual breast examinations to discover cancer in its preliminary stages declined from 830,312 to 321,700. That figure represents a 61 percent dip in the necessary women’s health service.

Similarly, PAP tests to screen women for HPV and precancerous cells declined from 904,820 to just 293,799, a stunning drop of nearly 70 percent. Pre-natal visits took an unprecedented hit, dropping by 77 percent to only 9,419 exams in 2016. Clearly, pre-natal care is no longer a significant aspect of Planned Parenthood.

Other taxpayer-funded health organizations provided women with more than 500,000 mammograms in 2015. Planned Parenthood conducted none. Other taxpayer supported health organizations delivers more than 292,000 babies. Planned Parenthood did not deliver any babies alive.

Despite the incredible decline of women’s health services from 2009-2016, the abortion giant showed a profit of more than $77 million in 2016, contrasting its “non-profit” status. That year, American taxpayers were tasked with providing $554.6 million to underwrite Planned Parenthood’s $1.3 billion budget, equaling 53 percent. Despite the massive influx of taxpayer dollars, Planned Parenthood serves less than 3 percent of women between 16 and 64 years old.

Christians Boycott WNBA over Abortion Clinic Affiliation

The facts about Planned Parenthood have led many pro-life Christians to withdraw their support of the women’s professional sports league. This quiet protest may prove an important one that helps curb major brands from teaming up with immoral organizations such as Planned Parenthood.

The WNBA was initially underwritten by the NBA, and after 22 years the 12-team league struggles financially. By comparison, their male counterparts earn rookie salaries of more than half a million dollars, while top WNBA stars earn just north of $100,000. Reports indicate that the women’s league has yet to collectively turn a significant profit. Several teams are in the red. That makes the league vulnerable to boycotts.

Perhaps Mark Harrington, national director of the Christian organization Created Equal, said it best when the WNBA’s Seattle Storm partnered with Planned Parenthood in 2017.

“Professional sports franchises are free to do as they wish, but it is our responsibility to make sure they know that enabling child-killing will come at a significant cost to their bottom line and brand” he reportedly said.

“Children are going to be violently torn apart if we do nothing as partnering with these killers becomes a corporate fad.”

It may be time for Christians to take a stand by not purchasing a seat.
