When the Clintons invited Catholic missionary Mother Teresa to speak at a National Prayer Breakfast at the Hilton International Ballroom in Washington, D.C., they probably didn’t know what they were in for. Instead of the nun offering a redemptive address of joy and hope, she took the opportunity to bring up the somber topic of abortion, which Teresa starkly called “a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself.”
As a calculated communiqué, it was a rare public rebuke of the nation’s First Couple and their longstanding support of the apocryphal pro-choice movement. Teresa used the word “abortion” at least 15 times in her speech, likely making Bill and Hillary Clinton (and those in their party) highly uncomfortable as she spoke of the practice as a violent “destroyer of love and peace.”
One can only hope that the Clintons felt shame as they faced their supporters and the press in the aftermath of Teresa’s powerful speech.
