NFL QB Drew Brees Praises God after Breaking Passing Record

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees recently eclipsed the all-time passing record and his message for football fans was that everything begins with God.

An emotional Brees surpassed future hall-of-famer Peyton Manning and offered both thanks and advice after the Monday Night Football contest. The league stopped the game after Brees shattered the record while completing an outstanding 26 of 29 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns in the Superdome.

After hugging teammates and handing the ball to Pro Football Hall of Fame president David Baker, Brees embraced his wife and four children before speaking to the media. His accomplishment ranks among the most revered in professional sports, and he offered these words.

“There’s so many people that are responsible and had a hand in that,” Brees reportedly said. “The two people that are most responsible for my football career, early on, my mom and my grandpa, are up in heaven. There were a lot of people I wanted to prove right tonight, but none more so than them. I know they are watching down on me.”

Turning his thoughts to fatherhood, he shared the advice he gives his children to the sports world.

“I tell them every night before they go to bed, you can accomplish anything in life you’re willing to work for,” Brees reportedly said. “Nothing’s given, everything’s earned. God has equipped us for great works. I tell them that every night.”

Brees received a humorous congratulations from the former passing leader and future hall-of-fame QB Peyton Manning.

“Drew, for a thousand days I’ve held the record for all-time passing yards in the NFL,” Manning reportedly says in a tongue-in-cheek video. “I gotta tell ya, it has been the greatest one-thousand days of my life. And thanks to you, that’s over now. You’ve ruined that for me.”

Manning is a New Orleans native whose NFL hall of fame father, Archie Manning, quarterbacked the Saints for 11 seasons. The Mannings are also Christians.

Christian Comedy Goes Viral

Peyton Manning is not the only believer with an off-beat sense of humor. A recent spoof on Christians by a Christian comedian went viral.

Comedian Jon Crist posted a skit called “HONEST THOUGHTS: Taking a Date to Church” and everyday Christians are apparently getting quite a kick out of being lampooned. In the video, Crist and his date share their inner thoughts during a church sermon. Much like a movie or dinner date, the pair are filled with nervous anxiety and a range of emotions that never quite seem to get on the same page. Crist had this to say about poking good, clean fun at church-going.

“I feel like if there is any ribbing or maybe roasting of the church or Christian culture, I like to say, ‘It’s not me pointing at you guys, it’s me shining a mirror at us. I’m in the front of it, look at us,'” Crist reportedly said. “A lot of times it comes off as if someone is making a joke about Christianity in the public forum, whether it be on social media . . . And I’m kind of like, ‘Hey I’m with you. I grew up here, I love Jesus, I think the local church is our only hope.’ That being said, we do some weird stuff.”

Grammy Nominee Says Christ Allows Her to “Be Myself”

Tori Kelly appears in a new video that reveals how taking Jesus Christ into her heart opened doors.

The 2016 Grammy Award nominee for Best New Artist is widely recognized as the voice of Meena in the children’s movie “Sing,” and appearances in the very popular Nationwide commercials. In a recent I Am Second video she explains how surrendering to God’s love changed her life.

“(Philippians 3:7-8) says all these things I consider as loss compared to knowing Jesus Christ. I don’t believe that every single day wholeheartedly, but that, I think, is the goal is to really look at my life and be like, OK, if all of this went away, would I still be OK with just Jesus and all of the things that He offers? And I would say yes, I would be OK because He’s just, He’s everything. Through Christ, I can just be myself and just be surrounded by his love,” Kelly reportedly says.

During her entertainment career, industry executives tried to mold her into a “bubbly personality.” But her faith became a source of strength, knowing that she should remain true to herself and God.

Her advice to other aspiring female artists is to “be the girl that God uniquely made as you, and you don’t have to compare yourself to anybody.”
